What is Project Maroon?

I am a perfectionist. And not the highly effective type. I'm the procrastinating, "Oh my god what's taking him so long" perfectionist. I'm the hypercritical perfectionist who doesn't trust compliments and affirmations and who second, triple, and quadruple questions myself. If you go furniture shopping with me bring a snack. I will visit every furniture store in a 50 mile radius, and then circle back again to the ones I've moved to the top of the list to make sure I'm getting the best couch I can find at the best price. It is a truly maddening process but I cannot help myself. A blessing and a curse. I do not turn in drafts without a preemptive apology. At times, my perfectionism can be suffocating. It is constricting and leads me to give myself less grace than I give to total strangers. So I'm no longer attempting perfection.

Project Maroon is a place where I'll document and explore food, food systems, and my own family's culinary traditions. It is a place of preservation, celebration, and exploration. It is where I'll write and research and record and share the food things that intrigue me and that I think are important.

Project Maroon, like me, is a work in progress. Like me, it is messy, confusing, confused, easily excitable, and sometimes vague.  And also like me, it will live freely. I've worked very hard to love myself and am now choosing to extend that love to the things that I create.

So welcome to Project Maroon.
